Pipits are a potentially confusing family, especially in autumn. The author offers advice on identification of two national rarities - Red-throated Pipit [Anthus cervinus] and Pechora Pipit [Anthus gustavi] - and how to separate them from the ubiquitous Meadow Pipit.
